With the success of Windows Live Messenger(previously MSN Messenger), WLM9 has already started development and it has been released to some 50000 testers worldwide.

Features and Changes~
* Sign-in and messaging in multiple locations - You asked for it, now you have it! You can now sign into Messenger from more than one computer at a time, up to four at once. Simply sign into Messenger from one computer, install Messenger on another computer and sign in using the same account. (Only works if all computers are running Messenger 9.0 Beta. Currently enabled only for users whose Windows Live ID country is US or Canada.)
* Signature sounds - Pick your own personal sound that your contacts will hear when you sign into Messenger (only works if you and your contacts have Messenger 9.0 Beta).
* Per contact sounds - Pick unique sounds for each of your contacts. You will be able to tell from across the room who is sending you a message.
* SPIM Reporting - If users send you unsolicited messages or invitations that you consider spam, you can block them and report them as spammers. If you report a user as a spammer, the messenger service will collect this data and put appropriate restrictions on the spammer accounts. All reports of spammers are kept confidential.
* Animated Display Pictures - Show your moves! Messenger now supports animated .gif files as display pictures.
* Link in Personal Status Message - URLs in Personal Status Messages are hot and clickable in the Messenger contact list.
* Behind the Scenes Changes - Architectural changes that modified how things work but shouldn't have changed how things look
- Changes to sign-in, connectivity, presence, sending text IMs, voice & video features
- Windows Live Contacts Server - wlcomm.exe runs in the background to keep your contacts' information up-to-date and helps Messenger sign you in faster

As i read about Windows Live Messenger 9 on the Microsoft Development Network(MSDN) blog, when one of the public questioned whether he could get an invite to test it, the developers replied that WLM9 is under private testing.

Wonder when can I see Windows Live Messenger 9 running on my PC.

Yep, if the voice conversation can be done in group conversation, that would be awesome. Also, if we can mass send files, such that in a group conversation, sending a file to a group means sending the file to each and every other participants of the conversation. xD

Messenger is really becoming a very mature and useful messaging application. I just wish they would spend some more work on the mac version... and also the servers need a whole rework ... the way that the messenger servers are setout is bad and needs a rework but messenger is a great fun program that is used but lots of people ....

if we could send files faster over msn that would also be good ... plus encryption is a feature from skype that i wish was in msn

Messenger have already encryption over data that contains your accounts' information which are stored stored on your computer. However, the connection between your computer and contacts are not encrypted.

i have observed, Windows Live Messenger can directly connect to a computer on your local network(LAN) without going through the servers and thus making the connection faster. I observed this when i was sending a large file to my other computers on the same network as my computer. however when i send to my friends via other ISP and non-LAN the transfer rate is lower.

Good things are meant to be shared. I found Windows Live Messenger 9.0.1407.1107 BETA leaked and i quickly downloaded it. To my dismay, it worked when many sites said that only invited beta testers can sign in.

I downloaded and tried it,its almost similiar to 8.5. If only it could do gradient text and background, it would be the better choice between msgplus and it.I love the signature sounds and i wonder when will msg 9 go out of beta mode.

It won't be so quickly since 8.5 is still in BETA. Also to clarify this with you :Neville Msgplus is just an add-on, or plugin, to Windows Live Messenger. So the main thing is still WLM.
